Schooner Madeline Deck Restoration Project

2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the launch of schooner Madeline, MHA's reconstruction of an 1800's schooner by the same name. Madeline was built by MHA volunteers over a five year period, during which volunteers dedicated over 40,000 hours of time to her construction. She was launched in June of 1990. Over the past 30 years schooner Madeline and her volunteer crew have served as important ambassadors for maritime history in both Traverse City and across the Great Lakes. (Learn more about Madeline here!)

December 2019 marked Phase One of a major re-decking project for schooner Madeline which is being undertaken to sustain her presence on the Great Lakes . The vessel's current deck, made of Douglas Fir, is experiencing extensive rot and this project aims to replace all decking with Alaskan Yellow Cedar to provide a longer-term, higher quality material. To move forward with this crucial task, we must raise the $40,000 projected project cost.

Project At A Glance:

1,769 Board Feet (BF) ordered to replace deck

$40,000 anticipated project cost
