In His Own Words
On this day of the 2011 Schooner Festival in Traverse City, Michigan, I was about town capturing images for stock footage. Late morning I drove past one of the tallships and stopped to ask if I could shoot a few video images. The people were friendly and busy, no doubt getting the boat ready to sail. As one who has always found these boats interesting I asked if anyone would be willing to share a little history and their passion for tallships. Jim Graczyk graciously volunteered to share the story of the Armed Sloop Welcome, the work it takes to sail such a vessel and the commitment of many to maintain it. It was a great opportunity to witness the excitement and love that the members of the Maritime Heritage Alliance have for these sailing treasures of history.
