SEPT.
UPDATE:
The work continues in building #1, home of our new MHA Restoration
Shop Youth Mentoring Program. Rod Jones and crew have been
getting the walls up and preparing the building for electrical
and plumbing work to follow.
Members
of Sea Scouts Ship 100 have begun working on the restoration
of our Marshall Sandpiper catboat. Hardware has been removed,
tagged, and bagged, and all the rotten and broken woodwork
has been removed. Fairing the hull and prepping it for a
fresh paint job is next on their list.

Welcome to The MHA Restoration Shop-
a brand new educational mentoring program
being developed by the MHA.
- MHA
has partnered with Hagerty
Insurance to receive damaged boats from their
claims department for the Restoration Shop.
- Working
with high-school students from the TBA Career-Tech Center
in Traverse City and our own volunteers, we will restore
these boats to show condition.
- The
boats will be the vehicle by which we show the students
that honest work, integrity, and mastery of a craft are
among life's greatest achievements.
- Upon
completion, these boats will added to our fleet or sold
to help fund the next boat project.
This new program is partially funded by the Collectors
Foundation, a national education grant-making
organization, initiated by Hagerty Insurance of Traverse
City and funded by a growing network of collector vehicle
and classic boat enthusiasts to serve young people.
The Foundation has provided a 5 year, $50,000 challenge
grant to support this program.
To learn how you can get involved with this unique new
mentoring program, call
